Sketches

Inky Sketches

I didn’t have a lot of time this week to do much painting. I got a few sketches  done but couldn’t upload ’cause of silly connection issues.
Anyway, I’m excited because I’ve been sketching in ink (the Mitsubishi Unipin fine liner in 0.3 and the Copic Ciao brush pen to be exact) and I haven’t made a mess of it as I thought I might initially.
These are the sketches I’m most happy with.

  1. Well done Sissh, the first and last sketches are my favorite(s), and the first image slightly reminds me of someone and/or could be slightly adjusted to look like that person.

      1. Haha hey it kinda does look a liiittle bit like her. If you squint your eyes, blur them a bit and tilt at an angle… Lol.^_^
Pauline Croze looks like quite an interesting person. And a good musician. I think I’d like to give her a listen sometime.

      1. Hi John Jr, It’s pretty cool that you thought to ask me. Picking a theme is a bit difficult for me but I’m more than happy to help if you reckon I can. So I checked out the links you sent and also fiddled with the settings on both the themes as applied to my blog and made some notes. I found that I like the crisp cleanness and simplicity of the Twenty Sixteen theme and the fact you can have a featured post; but I’m not taken by the customizer options – you can’t play around much and the colours aren’t that great. The Toujours theme I like because it has that slideshow feature (although I didn’t try that out on mine) and the ‘3 latest posts’ feature is pretty neat too – I think I like that more. So, after alls considered, I think the Toujours theme is the way to go (I like both but lean more towards Toujours). Also, I don’t think your sleepy star animation would look very good on the left (as in the Twenty Sixteen theme) – but that just opinion.
        Hope this helped! ^_^

      2. Hello Sissh,

Wow! Thank you for taking the time to do that, I was not expecting you to be so in-depth and test this like that, amazing. 🏆

I agree with all of your opinions on Twenty Sixteen and Toujours, I think that it is a shame that the featured content (post) slideshow feature and that the three recent posts feature require you to use a feature image for an image to show, and so this makes those two features useless to me because I only use hot-linked images on my posts and pages usually so my images do not show up if I try to use those features.

Do you think that I should use the default color scheme or another color scheme or just a different background color for the default color scheme for the Toujours theme?

  2. You’re always helping me with your handy tips and such. Naturally, I didn’t mind taking the time at all 🙂
I’d say stick with the background pattern as it is? That was also one of the things I liked about the theme. It’s design is simple enough to give that nice detail without it being too much.

    1. Thank you for answering that Sissh, and for the help. 🙂

I will give Toujours a chance, maybe I will adjust to the slight fadedness to parts of it and the lack of link colors and some of the other colors in the sidebar and a few other minor things, until hopefully the developers start making more acceptable/practical/general purpose/flexible/logical/balanced/et cetera free themes again. 😉

      1. You’re more than welcome. But if sometime down the line you’re unhappy with it afterall please don’t feel obligated to keep it any longer than you would.
I do hope they come up with better, well-rounded designs soon too. You can tell they put a lot of work into creating these themes but then again if you think about it they are free… I’m sure the premium ones are loads more efficiently designed. Anyway all the best in your hunt for the perfect theme or at least close to perfect. 😀

      2. Yep, I will, I do not expect too much from the free themes but things have changed over the years since I have been on WordPress.com.

Most themes, free and paid are usually supposed to follow certain design standards and basics to make themes more accessible for a larger number of people, and to be more logical and practical but theme design has been changing for the worst especially for the free themes here.

Basic rules and common sense are being ignored now, most themes are niche themes now, and have poor accessibility and more bugs and annoyances.

I have watched this get worse and worse over the years, it is sad and strange, and I have tried to fight it without much luck so far because the developers seem to be from other planets these days.

Their new approach and trend seems to be more illogical, impractical, inaccessible, unbalanced, inflexible, bug ridden, and annoyance filled.

This is not just a WordPress.com problem, I am seeing this trend around the internet and beyond, and it seems to be tied with the rise of mobile design.

It makes me feel like an old outdated man talking about the old ways as the newer generations change things for the worst.

I am not against change but I prefer more balanced and logical and practical change that works for a larger a mount of people.
